On 12th March, 2019 the Energy Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 50 of 2017) received Presidential assent and became an Act of Parliament, that is the Energy Act, 2019. During the commissioning of the 60KW Solar and 50KVA Genset at Lowarengak, Turkana County by Turkana North MP, Christopher Nakuleu. Over 200 customers (households and businesses are set to benefit).
CEO Rural Electrification Authority Mr. Peter Mbugua, received a delegation led by Mrs. Fan Ming Zhi, Vice President, Win Win Guangzhou Investment Advisory Centre and Ms. Ada Liang, Marketing Manager, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) the two parties discussed a wide range of issues on the mandate of REA and the socio economic development brought about by investing in rural electrification and the use of renewable energy sources.
REA commissioned the Kiliwehiri Solar Mini-grid located in Banisa Constituency,Mandera County (Kiliwehiri is at the border of Kenya and Ethiopia).
